When will Indian retailers “get” Groupon?

“Daily deals juggernaut Groupon partnered with consumer packaged goods giant General Mills to offer subscribers a first-of-a-kind home delivery grocery deal Thursday.

The “Redeem From Home” General Mills Sample Pack featured $40 worth of General Mills products — including a coupon book and breakfast, lunch and dinner fare — for $20.

The grocery deal was offered solely in San Francisco and Minneapolis. Eligible consumers responded with alacrity and snatched up the groceries before day’s end. In Minneapolis, for instance, the deal sold out at 3:05 p.m. local time with all 4,500 Groupons purchased. “

How would it  be if some of our Indian retailers looked at this concept? A Big Bazaar deal of similar nature to be redeemed from home ( or Spencers/ or Carrefour). All that is needed is an online application which re-creates the coupon that can be seeded across digital platforms. And all you do is click and pay online.

We do see front page TOI advertisements which cost a fortune informing of a sale. Would it be too hard to try something different? 26 million Indians are just on Facebook.
