Google recently declared war on content farms ( yes those who produce low quality content by copying from others or just by building sheer volume of tag word content). It is a welcome move. Originality of thinking can never be replicated by using mundane processes like metadata, linkbacks, tagging and keyword density and search engines ( at least the good ones) are figuring that out.
Would you follow the user/ producer or the engine if you are a marketer ? Have you ever really clicked on the paid links on the side of a search page?
Building links is good. But who is endorsing your link? Who is giving you the vote of confidence? As time goes, those with original thinking and content will push their way ahead and Google’s change in algorithm’s to track and rank sites is going to change the way search results are optimised.
We can either spend some time to write what we feel inside ( even if its wrong and back it with strong logic) or we can spend hours filling metadata excel sheets and give hi fives for those rankings which don’t ship in the end.
The choice to define search is ours.
